Stallion Service

Black River Ranch offers three outstandingly bred stallions for stallion service.

I would like to make some comments about my situation and these really fine horses. All of these horses had futurity potential. My divorce and illness prevented them from having the opportunity to show off their skills in the show pen. I have owned, shown and bred foundation working type quarter horses since 1994. There is a true excess of horses on the market these days and if I did not feel that these horses were exceptional in every way they would have been gelded. I hope to go ahead and train and promote them (all are started) even though they will be behind in experience.

JAZ POCO MADEIRA

Jaz Poco Madeira is a 2002 Red Dun Stallion from the famed Jazz Ranch. He is 38% Poco Bueno and 98% foundation. I wanted to seek out one stallion that was as pure of blood as I could have, carrying the King lines. This was a long involved search. There were many stallions at the Jazz ranch, several with that pretty grullo color, but Madeira had the whole package. Pictures are tough. This is one well put together stallion. I wanted one that would hold the ground and take a lot of using and stay sound. This guy is correct, big boned, athletic with that exceptional Poco Bueno/King 234 temperament! Madeira is coming five and has had little done with him, but he is completely amiable to do whatever I need him to do. Stand in a stall, out with a herd, breeding a mare, in a paddock or hauled to an arena, he is just good with anything. He should do it all from working cow events to handy ranch classes.

He bred his first mare last year. A bay mare with King and Royal King on the papers and she produced a red dun filly.

If you are looking to keep a high percentage of Poco Bueno/King blood up front in your breeding program, want everything good plus the possibility of color or want to outcross to cool down a pretty hot mare, this is a great young stallion with years of a proven breeding program behind his pedigree!!

Dregers Dry Tivio - Reference Sire

Tuff Cashin Chex is a professional horseman's horse. Out of an own daughter of Miss N Cash and by a grandson of Dry Doc, great grandson of King Fritz, Poco Tivio and Rowdy #795, this is a using/cow bred horse! He is a 2003 Bay Stallion. This guy is smart and sensitive and you do not have to ask twice. Like the stories of Miss N Cash, this guy was so easy to start. The first time I got on, he walked off like he had been carrying a rider all his life. Completely comfortable. Never bucked or fussed, all business. Reiners, Cutters and Working Cow Horse owners, riders and trainers take a chance on this guy. His pedigree speaks for itself. I intend to get him out for reining and hopefully working cowhorse. I also intend to train Tuff as my demo horse for horse fairs and expos. Anyone that has attended these events knows that it takes a pretty special horse for this kind of work and this horse has it!

COLONEL’S CASHIN CHEX

Colonel’s Cashin Chex is a 2004 Chestnut Stallion that will not stand until 2008, however, I want to get people thinking about him This guys pedigree is also a working horseman’s dream come true! His dam was a granddaughter of Colonel Freckles and Doc Tom Tucker. This pedigree carries King Cobra, Tonette Tivio and King Fritz to name a few. His sire was a grandson of Dry Doc, great grandson of King Fritz, Poco Tivio and Rowdy #795 making him a half brother to Tuff Cashin Chex. This young stallion has a very unique disposition. He is really bred to be a horseman's horse, but last year, barely halter broke, a fourteen-year-old young man started this colt. He had never started a horse before and had been riding for approximately one year. He had my help, but did all of the work himself. On the fourth day he rode this colt for the first time and rode him every day after for about a week. This colt sustained a life threatening injury and was laid up for almost six months. The same young man, now fifteen, took him out, saddled him up and rode off!

I can't say enough great things about this colt! He is super athletic and capable of the low and very sideways moves that the Colonel Freckles horses are known to be very capable of doing! Due to his exceptional temperament I would recommend him for the novice breeder interested in breeding for a nice horse to ride and pen or sort on as well as the professional horsemen who are interested in cutting, reining and working cow horse events. Look for this horse in the show pen being shown by his teenage trainer (where this is allowed) and by myself in the other events.
