Susan's unique ability to safely teach trailer loading and trailer loading training techniques allows
owners the peace of mind that their horses will load safely and consistently.
Susan is highly respected in this field and receives several emergency calls each year to load injured
horses for veterinary care.
Trained and ready to roll !
Over the years I have had many trailer loading scenarios. Those experiences varied from simply taking the time to train the horse to get in and out of the trailer, to dealing with extremely dangerous behaviors around the trailer and life threatening situations that required me to load a horse expediently and safely. With the latter, I was especially thankful for my training and experience. The emergency that comes to mind is the call I received one spring afternoon. A woman that lived about an hour from me had a mare with a prolapsed rectum. The horse had never been cooperative about loading and now she needed to be loaded and hauled to an equine hospital. I recall not being exactly sure what she meant, but I knew I had to hurry. I normally do not want anyone involved when I am loading or training a horse to load, but this trip would be the exception and I was glad that my father had come with me. My father had to hold the innards of this mare in a pail, fairly close to her, while I worked on loading her. I got this mare safely loaded and the owners got her to the equine hospital. She did survive. I consider trailer loading training an extremely important aspect of any horse's life and I truly enjoy teaching it.
I want to differentiate what I do:
Trailer Loading Training is taking the time to properly teach the horse to get into and out of the trailer. It may require addressing leading issues or tying/pulling back issues as well. It requires lots and lots of repetition to become a learned behavior so that the owner can count on the horse loading safely every time he is presented with getting into the horse trailer.
Under emergency situations I am loading the horse. I am using the same techniques, but I am not providing any repetition. This is solely to safely get a horse loaded so that it can return home from a show or fairgrounds, from a farm where it has been purchased so it can be transported to it's new home or for medical treatment.
Since situations vary so greatly with this type of work, please call or e-mail with details for an accurate estimate of training charges.
